Peace Monument Unveiled in Bulgan Soum, Khovd Aimag, Mongolia: A Symbol of Harmony and Peace

On May 9th, approximately 400 local residents, students, and education officials gathered at the 1st Secondary School of Bulgan Soum of Khovd Province in Mongolia for the successful “Unveiling Ceremony of the Peace Monument.”

The event was organized through collaboration between HWPL and the school, establishing a Peace Monument within the grounds of the 1st Secondary School of Bulgan Soum, Khovd Province, symbolizing harmony within Mongolia and the spread of peace culture worldwide.

Principal Bayarsaikhan Sodnoo of the 1st Secondary School of Bulgan Soum, Khovd Province, stated: “The peace monument erected here today is not merely a sculpture, but carries deep meaning for the distant future. In this era where people freely travel and live around the world, I hope this monument will serve as a symbol that makes not only the residents of Bulgan Soum, but also travelers from distant countries such as the United States, Japan, and Korea feel that ‘this is a land of peace.'”

He also expressed his goal to formally incorporate HWPL’s peace education program into the curriculum of the 1st Secondary School of Bulgan Soum and, furthermore, to ensure that all residents in the region receive peace education.

The monument unveiling was attended by Principal Bayarsaikhan along with school staff members including Oyun-Erdene Buyan-Ulzii, Ganchimeg Urtnasan, and Nyamdavaa Tumurbaatar. Students conveyed a message of peace through their performance of the “Peace Dove” song.

Ganchimeg, the education manager at the 1st Secondary School of Bulgan Soum, explained: “Bulgan Soum in Khovd Aimag is a region where two major ethnic groups, the Torghut and Kazakh peoples, live together. Despite significant differences in language, culture, and ways of thinking, the people of this region cherish living compassionately and peacefully. This peace monument symbolizes our continued commitment to living in harmony.”

 

 

HWPL plans to continuously promote peace education targeting schools and local communities in this Mongolian region, taking this monument unveiling as an opportunity. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to creating a sustainable peace culture, particularly in conjunction with the Mongolian government’s introduction of “Civic Ethics Education.”
