HWPL Holds 11th Anniversary of September 18th World Peace Summit in Nairobi – Launch of Peace City Project

 

 

On September 7, 2025, the “Commemoration of the 11th Anniversary of the HWPL September 18 World Peace Summit” was held at the University of Nairobi Science Campus. Co-hosted by HWPL and the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK, a government body), the event gathered 550 participants, including 7 VIPs, to reaffirm their commitment to fostering a culture of peace.

Distinguished guests included Ms. Aurelia Rono, Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and Representative of the Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya; Hon. Athanas Nyaboke Ongeri, Judge of the High Court of Kenya; Ms. Prisca Kamungi, Peace and Development Officer at the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Kenya; Mr. Ramadan Abubakar, President of the East Africa Law Society; Mr. Linus Thigai, Executive Director of IRCK; and Mr. Felix Amu, Acting Permanent Representative of the United Nations Office in Nairobi.

 

 

The program featured a highlights video of HWPL’s global initiatives, presentation of 2025 achievements and vision, congratulatory speeches, IRCK’s signing of a DPCW resolution, declaration of the “Peace City Nairobi Project,” and collective signing of the DPCW.

Key outcomes included full DPCW support signatures from all participants, four letters of support from high-ranking officials, IRCK’s adoption of Articles 8, 9, and 10 of the DPCW, and an official declaration of support for the Peace City Project on behalf of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

 

 

Mr. Linus Thigai, Executive Director of IRCK, emphasized, “The provisions of Articles 8, 9, and 10 of the DPCW are essential for inter-religious peace in Kenya, which is why we have adopted this resolution.” Ms. Aurelia Rono stated, “We are delighted that HWPL will work with Nairobi and Kenya for peace. We hope to achieve practical peace, and both the Parliament and the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s Office will actively support this effort.”

The event is recognized as a milestone in promoting the culture of peace in Kenya, marking a meaningful step toward realizing Nairobi as a Peace City through international cooperation.
