Introducing an IPYG Affiliate Organization: South Sudan Youth Peace and Development Organization (SSYPADO)

South Sudan Youth Peace and Development Organization (SSYPADO) is a youth-led civil society organization (CSO) established in South Sudan in July 2010. The organization operates across six states in South Sudan, including the capital city of Juba, as well as in refugee communities in neighboring countries such as Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
SSYPADO’s core areas of work include peacebuilding, human rights protection, food security, livelihood support, education, healthcare and environmental protection. It carries out various awareness-raising activities and relief efforts to help young people and vulnerable communities in conflict-affected areas become self-reliant.
Currently, with support from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Australian Government, SSYPADO is implementing the “Give Youth a Voice for a Peaceful South Sudan” project. As part of this initiative, it organizes cross-border youth peace dialogues, town hall meetings for university students, and workshops to train local peace ambassadors.

SSYPADO has participated in online peace events hosted by HWPL and IPYG since 2024. In particular, through this year’s Youth Empowerment Peace Class (YEPC), the organization reaffirmed the importance and value of bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds to foster mutual understanding.
Amid ongoing conflict and disputes, Augustino Deng Alier, chairperson of the South Sudan Youth Peace and Development Organization, believes that young people should not remain mere victims but should instead become key drivers of peace. He shares the same vision as IPYG and wants to send the following message of encouragement to young people around the world.
