IPYG Affiliate Introduction: South African Learners Support Organization (SALSO)

In June, IPYG and the South African Learners Support Organization (SALSO) established a partnership. Through this collaboration, the two organizations aim to advance education and peace initiatives for learners in South Africa and create a foundation for youth to realize their potential.
SALSO, based in Johannesburg, operates educational and support programs for over 2,500 learners across South Africa. The organization is dedicated to supporting vulnerable learners, out-of-school youth, educators, and parents. Its key activities include career guidance, menstrual and sexual health education, bullying prevention, and overcoming learning barriers.

Notably, on July 19 this year, IPYG and SALSO conducted a training session for youth in the Soweto area facing challenges like unemployment. The session covered resume and proposal writing using AI digital technology, along with youth leadership education. This supported the youth in growing as peace ambassadors and responsible leaders within their communities.
Additionally, on June 4th, both organizations commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene Day at Tavo High School in Naledi, Johannesburg, providing students with accurate knowledge about menstrual health and personal hygiene products.
“Let us continue to build a world where everyone can have the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances, through sustained cooperation,” said Itumeleng Segona, founder and executive director of the South African Learner Support Organization (SALSO), regarding the collaboration.
Moving forward, IPYG and SALSO plan to regularly operate the Youth Empowerment Peace Classroom (YEPC), restructured to suit learners’ needs, enabling more youth to learn about peace and grow.
