“K-Peace Hunters” Unification and Security Education for the Whole Family Held in Chuncheon, South Korea
A Division and Unification Education Program Shared by Parents and Children Together

On November 29th of last year, a unification education event for parents and children was held in Samcheon-dong, Chuncheon, Gangwon-do. Hosted by the Chuncheon Peace Action Committee, the event titled “Together: Connecting Our People, K-Peace Hunters – My Unification Story” featured lectures tailored to children’s perspectives, allowing participants to understand the pain of national division.
The event, attended by approximately 100 citizens, began with a national ceremony followed by a screening of “The Letter of 16-Year-Old Lee Woo-geun,” a video depicting the life of a Korean War veteran. Through the video, attendees witnessed the vivid horrors of war and realized that the tragedy of division remains an ongoing reality.

Following the screening, Lee Jung-soon, a consultant for the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, took the stage to share her personal experience of defecting from North Korea. She highlighted the current situation surrounding the peninsula and emphasized the necessity of unification based on her life in the North.
Venerable Dobeop, the head monk of Oyangsa Temple, stated, “Every small step toward unification is incredibly precious. I hope more citizens and leaders from all walks of life will join us in the future to make this a larger movement.” The event concluded with a heartwarming choral performance of “Our Wish is Unification.”
An elementary school student who attended the event shared, “The lecture by the teacher from North Korea was very memorable. It’s sad that North Korean children go through such hardships. I want to participate in more unification events and tell my friends about them.”
This event is highly regarded for presenting a community-based peace education model. By utilizing realistic content—such as first-hand accounts from a defector and footage of a war veteran—it effectively communicated the reality of division and allowed the local community to share the importance of peace.
The Chuncheon Peace Action Committee is currently leading the “Together: Connecting Korea” campaign, focused on four key pillars:
- Connecting Generations
- Connecting the Future
- Connecting Culture
- Connecting Our People
The ‘Connecting Our People’ initiative aims to promote mutual understanding and harmony between North and South Korea while building public consensus for peaceful unification.
