“Clean Mongolia” Cleanup Campaign Held… 30 Tons of Waste Collected from the Tuul River Basin

On March 22, in commemoration of World Water Day, the “Clean Mongolia” campaign was held in the Tuul River basin in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, through the joint efforts of HWPL and various civic groups and NGOs. Approximately 200 participants took part in the large-scale environmental cleanup, resulting in the collection of a total of 30 tons of waste from the river basin.

The Tuul River is a primary water source for the citizens of Ulaanbaatar and a vital natural resource closely linked to their daily lives. However, ongoing waste inflow and environmental pollution have continued to pose serious challenges, underscoring the need for sustained, community-based cleanup initiatives. In response, HWPL joined the campaign, contributing to a collective effort to address environmental concerns.

Participants gathered at 9:00 a.m. for a briefing and area assignments before carrying out cleanup activities from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. across the Tuul River basin. The event concluded with the collection and proper sorting of the waste.

Through this initiative, participating organizations actively responded to pollution affecting a key water resource directly connected to public life, successfully removing approximately 30 tons of waste.

A student participant remarked, “While collecting waste, I was able to see firsthand how much garbage had accumulated throughout the river basin. We should not dispose of waste carelessly; instead, we must properly separate and dispose of it or take it back with us when spending time outdoors.”

The HWPL Mongolia Branch stated that it plans to further expand environmental protection activities, including cleanup campaigns and tree-planting initiatives. It also aims to promote long-term environmental improvement projects in collaboration with local communities, contributing to sustainable environmental conservation and the advancement of a culture of peace.
