“HWPL Unveiling Ceremony of Peace Monument,” which is Korea No. 1 Peace Symbol Erected in the Temple

 

On October 10, 2023 “HWPL Unveiling Ceremony of Peace Monument” co-hosted by HWPL Global Branch 10 and Korean Buddhism was held in Asan, Manjusa (Buddhist temple) in the Republic of Korea. This event was held to wish for peace and to commemorate practices and contributions of peace activities. For the first time in Korea, a monument was erected for building peace, making this a very meaningful event.

The unveiling ceremony of the peace monument was performed during the first session – before the Dharma ceremony – on the occasion of the 52nd first Tathagata Ilvung Mundo day. There were 175 people in attendance including the monks of the Ilvung Mundo Central Committee and figures from religious groups and society, wishing for the alliance of religions and peace in the world.

“I will stand with HWPL because the chairman of HWPL and the 1st Tathagata Ilvung have the same will for peace,” said Ven. Venerable Man Ju, Chairman of the 1st Tathagata Ilvung Mundo Central Committee as he delivered the message for alliance of religions and peace to the monks. In addition, he gave congratulatory remarks saying, “I am pleased to host this meaningful event, the unveiling ceremony of the No. 1 peace monument, as an HWPL ambassador and will continue to erect HWPL peace monuments in my life from now on.”

On this peace monument, there is a carved message, “Let us become peace messengers who fulfill peace, freedom, unification, the cessation of global war, world peace restoration, and peaceful re-unification,” which contains the heart of wishes for peace of HWPL and Korean Buddhism. Through this unveiling ceremony, everyone who loves peace can become a peace messenger, and the fact that the whole world could be closer to peace through peace activities is confirmed.
